Architectural Sales, Fisher Coatings/Abodo Wood - Squamish, BC, Canada
As an architectural sales team member for Abodo’s Canadian Distributor, Fisher Coatings, Andreas Sandell’s down-to-earth personality along with his background of over 12 years in the wood coatings industry bring authenticity and integrity to his work.
Andreas’ role sees him meeting with clients for architectural timber sales and presentations and acting as point of contact for any enquiries, all tasks which are greatly supported by his trust in the product.
“I love representing a quality brand and product where the facts, testing and details speak for themselves, and in combination with strong ethical and sustainable values, creates true value for the customer. I couldn’t sell vacuums!” he jokes.
A strong believer in going the extra mile for sustainability, Andreas hopes to make an impact at work by helping more people switch from old growth timbers to renewable products such as Abodo.
On a more personal level, he plans to practice what he preaches by replacing his petrol car with an electric vehicle as soon as possible. In terms of the wider wood industry, he sees the future belonging to those who offer sustainable alternatives.
“I believe the future will favor the suppliers that have a stable, long term supply of raw material."
"The next couple of decades will still see stiff competition from composite alternatives but I think as the fight against climate change intensifies, we will see restrictions on – and consumers rejecting – petrochemical products.”
In true British Columbia fashion, Andreas spends much of his off-time outdoors, helping out with his Cross Country Skiing club in the winter and trail running in the summer.
“I usually serve as Chief of Course at our Cross Country Skiing club, which means I am responsible for the race courses during events. These include everything from local kids’ races to Canadian Nationals, US Super Cup and World Junior/U23 Championships. I love watching my son race!” he says.
On the practical side of things, Andreas believes in the ‘oldie but goodie’ that you should measure twice and cut once. For Andreas, this adage can perhaps be extended to a wide range of decisions in life, from planning cross country skiing courses to deciding which timber to clad your home in.
“Going the extra mile is often very rewarding in the end,” he says.
