The Amberley home is a family home with style.
As the client is also the designer and builder (Keane Building),
a discerning choice in materials was made to endure the rigours of
everyday family life (including three small children) while balancing
style and design, alongside sustainability credentials.
The outcome is a stylish balance of simple shapes and contrasts, featuring Abodo’s rapidly renewable, low maintenance eco-timbers.
Polished concrete floors in the interior contrast with the striking Vulcan Charred Cladding on the feature wall behind the fire, including a hidden door into one of the bedrooms.
Vulcan charred timber is also used for the bulkhead and kitchen surround, creating an impactful feature in the living areas. This will no doubt be a talking point, not just because of the beautiful finish of the charred cladding, but as the clients charred the timber themselves.
Similarly on the exterior, steel cladding contrasts with the natural pre-weathered look of Vulcan Cladding in Sioo:x Finish.
The contrast of dark and light reinforces the simple design aesthetic, with a feature wall in the same Sioo:x finished timber brought through into the home.
Both the Charred and Sioo:x finished timber cladding are low maintenance. Sioo:x weathers to a beautiful silver grey, and can last up to 10 years before a recoat is required.
