This Coatesville home by Nick Rowe Architecture dares to be different with a gable roofline that pops out of a rectangular form and a central, porthole style window creating a nautical, crafted look.

The covered deck effectively doubles the living space, providing a landing pad for the dogs as well as extra space for entertaining with a verdant view to the adjacent pine forest. Vulcan Smooth Decking was chosen for its sleek look and silky feel underfoot, as well as for its durability as a thermally modified timber product.

When designing for this semi-rural site, homeowners Matt and Jenna were looking to create a warm, inviting ‘forever’ home that would stand the test of time. This meant specifying lasting materials that met stringent sustainability requirements.

The Vulcan Cladding in Protector – Patina also assimilates with the Colorsteel Sandstone roofing and joinery, tying the architecture together with a consistent, pale grey palette. Vulcan’s patented vertical grain orientation increases its resilience through all weathers, especially important for a rural setting.

For Matt and Jenna, living close to the land means reaping the health benefits that come with an outdoor lifestyle. For this reason, the low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) finishes provided by the Abodo timbers factored in their choice, as well as the fact that these products are made using timber from Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified, rapidly renewable forests. Vulcan timber is verified to store more carbon than is used in its production, adding to the ethical benefits of its use.

Sustainability was a crucial aspect for us, we wanted to ensure our home was considerate to the environment."

“Abodo was recommended by our architect and, after comparing it to other products on the market, we chose it because the products are durable and environmentally friendly,” says Matt.

“The builders also loved using the product, noting that it was a dream to put up. The feedback from our build and architectural team was consistently excellent, further reinforcing our decision.”
