New Study – Wood and it’s Physiological Benefits – Planet Ark
Planet Ark has released a new report into the health and wellbeing benefits of wood materials in homes, businesses and places for learning.
Titled “Wood – Housing Health Humanity” the study was released on International Day of the Forest – 21 March, 2015.
Set in an Australian context, the report provides a review of studies analysing the health benefits of wooden surfaces, interiors and furniture in homes and the workplace.
A number of physiological, psychological and environmental benefits were identified for wood – including:
- Improvement in emotional state, and self expression
- Reduced blood pressure, heart rate and stress
- Improved air quality through humidity moderation in interior applications
- Wood’s use as a long-term store of carbon.
The study explores Australians innate attraction towards wood.
Wood exudes warmth, comfort and relaxation – however the conscious knowledge of these benefits is low in Australians.
